It is a true alternative to conventional injection-molded covers: the Film-Based Cover (FBC) from Schreiner ProTech. This innovative film solution has not only firmly established itself since its launch but now offers customers even greater complexity reduction due to additional features.
The Film-Based Cover consists of a sturdy polyester film that is precisely applied and reliably connected to the housing by means of laser welding. That method ensures high resistance against chemical, mechanical, and thermal stress. But the FBC goes beyond serving as a simple closure and has evolved into a comprehensive all-in-one product. Among other things, it includes integrated pressure compensation seals and the opportunity for subsequent, steam-jet-resistant TTR printing. “Our objective was to offer a complete solution that not only meets the requirements for a housing cover but also clearly reduces complexity and effort for our customers,” said Markus Loris, product manager, protection films at Schreiner ProTech.

In addition, the Film-Based Cover is particularly well suited for sensor applications because it offers better radar permeability than solid injection-molded covers, which significantly enhances sensor performance. Regular dialog with developers and users was a major aspect in the product’s evolutionary process.
