Insurance license plates made of self-adhesive film have many advantages. They are lightweight and space-saving in storage and shipping, their production is more resource-efficient than a conventional metal plate and they contain a special hologram as an additional security feature.
Since 2019, small electric vehicles (EKF), better known as e-scooters, have only been able to drive with film license plates. Since 2021, this has also applied to all mopeds and scooters thanks to the "FVZAusnV" exemption regulation issued by the Federal Ministry of Digital and Transport. In both cases, Schreiner Group has been a development partner and supplier of the self-adhesive insurance license plates from the very beginning.

Modern adhesive license plates for mopeds – sustainable, secure, and officially approved

Adhesive license plates have proven their value in everyday use and offer numerous advantages: they conserve resources, reduce CO₂ emissions, and provide a high level of protection against counterfeiting thanks to integrated holographic security features.

They are now also permanently established in legislation: with the latest amendment to the German Vehicle Registration Ordinance (Fahrzeug-Zulassungsverordnung, FZV), adhesive license plates have been officially recognized as a standard solution. The relevant provisions are now set out in Section 53a (“License Plate Film and Mounting Plate”) and the corresponding Annex 17a.

As a result, adhesive license plates for mopeds are no longer an exception but an established component of Germany’s road traffic regulations.

Carrier Plates for Film Insurance License Plates

The insurance license plate for scooters or e-scooters is attached using a carrier plate for film license plates, which is usually made of plastic. After one year, only the film license plate needs to be replaced or pasted over, the carrier plate can be reused. Using a plastic carrier plate with an annually changing film insurance plate is much more resource-efficient in the long term than using an annually changing composite insurance plate made of aluminum or tinplate with reflective foil.
