Tachographs are essential for compliance with driving times and rest periods in road transportation of goods. To prevent tampering and optimize process reliability, Schreiner ProTech in collaboration with the in-house research and development department has developed a customized solution for the Scandinavian branch of renowned American manufacturer Stoneridge.
The requirements to be met by the seal were high: It was to make tampering with the SE 5000 tachograph visible and to be applied to a hard to access, curved plastic surface of the housing. In addition, the previous manual application process was to be replaced by a more efficient, automated solution.
Development of a Tailored Application Solution
In a parallel process, Schreiner ProTech developed a specially designed security seal with a variety of protective features, plus a suitable application machine. The material characteristics of the pad and the rotary motion during the application process of the seal played a crucial part in that regard.
Efficiency Increase Through Automation
After a development time of roughly six months, the new solution was ready for integration into the production process. The automated application ensures precise, fast, and reliable attachment of the seal. The solution was approved according to the test rules of the Federal Office for Security in Information Technology (BSI) and satisfies the highest security standards.
Stoneridge Relies on Future-Proof Tamper Evidence
“This solution makes our SE5000 even more reliable and efficient,” said Thomas Anderson, the project manager at Stoneridge. The close collaboration with Schreiner ProTech enabled an innovative all-in-one solution that sets new standards for tamper-proofing tachographs and therefore sustainably supports the transportation sector.
