New technique for manufacturing metal-based functional foils

Schreiner ProTech develops die-cut metal foils for cost-effective electronic functionalities

Oberschleissheim, November 15, 2011 – Schreiner ProTech uses delicately die-cut metal foils in an innovative approach to support the miniaturization trend in the electronics industry.  The extremely thin foils perform complex electronic functions. This new production technique makes it possible to manufacture products that can be used for shielding and insulation as well as for thermal or electrical conductivity applications.

Die cutting of metal foils is an innovative solution to create functional foils for flexible uses. Even small parts with narrow tolerances are achieved using leading-edge die cutting and printing techniques. Die cutting provides a cost-efficient alternative to traditional manufacturing methods particularly for smaller and medium manufacturing volumes. Schreiner ProTech’s technology, for instance, allows the production of conductor paths for very flat designs which are then used for direct bonding of LEDs. The combination with capacitive sensors enables the integration of additional control elements which are converted into user surfaces by means of intelligent printing techniques. Examples of the resulting products include self-adhesive LED lamps, high-grade circuitry and transparent control elements. The die-cut metal foils are also used in electronic assemblies for heat dissipation or to ensure the electromagnetic compatibility of technical equipment.
