Joining Forces to Combat Product Piracy
BMBF Research Project Develops Innovative Protection Solutions
As part of the ProAuthent research project supported by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, Schreiner ProSecure has joined forces with the Technical University (TU) Munich and leading manufacturers of machinery and equipment to develop innovative technologies against product piracy.
According to a recent study of the German Engineering Federation (VDMA), approximately two thirds of all manufacturers of machinery and equipment are affected by product piracy. Research supporting the development of new authenticity protection technologies is crucial in order to preserve Germany’s role as a center of technology, and to protect its industry and consumers from economic damage and health risks over the long run.
Together with leading machinery and equipment manufacturers, Schreiner ProSecure – as part of the ProAuthent project – is focusing on innovative and effective protection systems to fight product piracy. The project pursues a two-pronged approach of developing suitable identification and authentication technologies on one hand and an IT-supported system for product tracking and tracing on the other. The result will be a protection system using preventative methods to keep counterfeit components and spare parts, as well as their adverse consequences, out of the machinery and equipment sector.
