Syringe Label Has Been Nominated for German Design Award 2010
Needle-Trap
The multiple award-winning needle protection label “Needle-Trap” has been nominated for the Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany in the “product design” category. The prestigious accolade is the highest official German recognition in the area of design and regarded as the “award of awards.”
The competition is special in that only products that have previously won a national or international award may be entered. In addition, the product must be nominated either by a department of trade and commerce at state level or by the German Federal Ministry of Trade, Commerce and Technology. Needle-Trap meets all of these criteria.
Needle-Trap is a needle protection label for pre-filled syringes that helps protect healthcare professionals from needlestick injuries. It consists of a needle trap that is integrated into the label and serves to secure the contaminated needle after the injection has been performed. The development by Schreiner MediPharm features a completely new concept: a self-adhesive film combined with an injection-molded part.
Compared to conventional protection systems for pre-filled syringes Needle-Trap offers numerous benefits: The label is applied to the syringe on normal dispensing lines and is suitable for all standard syringe dimensions. Thanks to Needle-Trap’s compact design modifications of secondary packaging are generally not required. In addition, the label can be customized and provided with additional functions such as detachable documentation labels.
Its unusual form and innovative function make Needle-Trap a compelling candidate for the coveted design award. The prize will be presented in Frankfurt, Germany, in February 2010.
