Wood Works. Now Even More Efficiently!
((rfid))-Labels in the Lumber Industry
Which log has to be loaded onto which tractor-trailer? Where is the wood waiting to be processed stored at the saw mill? Modern RFID systems can systematically answer questions like these and thus significantly simplify processes in the lumber industry.
However, the technology of such solutions is pretty complex because fresh wood contains a lot of water. This significantly interferes with the wireless data transmission of conventional UHF tags (i.e. RFID transponders for the ultra-high frequency range). Therefore, the Institute for Forestry Work Science and Applied Computer Sciences of the Technical University Munich is conducting a study of the performance capabilities of innovative RFID solutions in the lumber industry. The ((rfid))-UHF-FlagTags by Schreiner LogiData are included in this investigation. These tags are well suited for use in the forestry and lumber industry because they are not attached to the log across their full surface but only at one side, like a flag. This significantly improves reading range and reliability. The ((rfid))-UHF-FlagTags are an extremely robust and comparatively low-cost solution. In addition, they can be custom-printed and enable visual as well as RFID-based identification.
