A Forward-Thinking Step
The New Logistics Center
The company continues to grow, and the new logistics center in Oberschleissheim supports this growth. Visible proof of this is provided by the high-bay warehouse with over 3,600 pallet slots, the ramp capacities, and the production areas for the post-press stage and shipping.
At Schreiner Group, growth is not only seen in terms of business vol ume but, even more importantly, in terms of quality. This philosophy is manifested in high reliability, short lead times, and 100 % quality in every detail. Lean and efficient pro duction processes are a prerequisi te for this, and internal logistics an essential element of lean produc tion. After purchasing hundreds of different raw and auxiliary materials, the availability of these commodi ties is of prime importance to assur ing short lead times. In this regard, not weeks, but days—perhaps even hours—count.
The central high-bay warehouse sup plies materials to the pre-production stages of cutting and laminating. Via a direct connecting passage in the basement, the material is routed to the pre-production stages in build ings I and II. After production, the products—via the direct connec tion on the second floor—return to the post-press stage in the logistics center. Depending on the type of or der, the products are either placed into storage or shipped immediately, or a combination thereof. Particularly large-volume orders are filled “just in-time” from the stock in the high bay warehouse.
The entire facility is air-conditioned and a high level of cleanliness is al ways guaranteed. In case of power outages, an emergency power sup ply system assures that shipments continue to leave the plant on time. The ample space in the ramp area enables loading several long-dis tance trucks as well as local delivery vans. Every day, some hundred ship ments leave the docks, from small, single parcels to goods packed on numerous pallets. To ensure a smooth flow of goods, inbound ship ments are processed at the ramps of “upstream” building II. This clear ly separates in- and outbound traffic. In the receiving area, materials are inspected prior to being placed into the high-bay warehouse. The sched uling department has to assure the company’s ability to meet its delivery obligations even if inbound materials are rejected due to defects. This is another example, which shows the importance of warehouse capacity to Schreiner Group and its ability to make on-time deliveries.
